Poet, Mónica de la Torre

Listening to one of my favorite podcasts "Lunch Poems", I came across this great young poet, Mónica de la Torre. She has several books published and writes for BOMB and The Brooklyn Rail. Btw, I was wondering anyone out there have some of their favorite podcasts they would like to share? I also listen to Ritmo Latino, The Fader, Frank Prattle, Fecal Face Dot Com, and recently Fistful of Ganas.

AFTER SHOW PARTY AT BOTECO, 916 NE 79th Street, Miami

DJ Popstars The Pinker Tones return to Miami, in support of their new release this spring for Nacional Records, Wild Animals. Professor Manso and Mister Furia, joined by DJ Nino, armed with turntables, mixers, soundboards and theremins, make euphoric Latin-tronica dance music from an eclectic blend of snippets - bossa nova, 60s lounge, soundtracks, groovy beats. From Barcelona's history of anarchy and wealth, eccentricism and immigration, comes a group at the heart of the Catalan cultural explosion. First collaborating in summer 2001 for a TV soundtrack, they quickly became an in-demand group for Djs gigs and producing. The Pinker Tones have been featured on Ugly Betty, they have performed on the Great Wall of China, in Red Square in Moscow, on stage at Sonar, and now for a night of dancing under the stars at the North Beach Bandshell.

The opening set is by ArtOfficial, a Miami-based group. They describe their sound as a mix of jazz with Hip Hop, filtered through Miami's unique Latin-dub sound. Like Barcelona, this city has also found a distinct rhythm from the clash of our own melting pot - traditional Latin rhythms mixed with electronica.
