NATIVE AMERICAN HIP HOP REPRESENTED BY LITEFOOT
Two years ago my carnal Cha came down from NYC to Miami to take some photos as part of his SVA thesis photo project. During his visit we went to the Seminole and Miccosukee Native reservations and this is how we met Litefoot, Native American hip hop artist, actor y entrepreneur. You probably saw him in movies or TV shows like Adaptation, CSI Miami, etc. After Cha took some shots of Litefoot, he shared one of his CD's with us and we also got a couple of t-shirts from his clothing line Native Style.
This is one of his videos entitled “Different People” from his album “Relentless Pursuit.” Litefoot will release his newest album “The Testament” which can be downloaded right here at www.litefoot.com on November 11, 2010. The album is a blend of contemporary rap music infused with Native American perspectives and tribal rhythms for the masses to enjoy. I

JAHWAIIAN MUSIC, REGGAE & MORE BEATS FROM HAWAII

Some months ago we escaped to the Hawaiian Islands, nothing but a great experience. Everything was great, food, views, beaches, waves and of course the music. Like every place we visit, we explored the music scene in the islands and we found awesome stuff. Caribbean beats are the specialty of course, specially reggae music, it's all over the radio, stations like Native FM never stop playing local and international reggae beats. Events in every island, while we were there Alborosie was on tour playing in different festivals.
These are some of the musicians/bands we found who play some varieties of reggae music such as jahwaiian music (mix of reggae and hawaiian music), dub, ska. Get a mai-tai, burn the fyah and enjoy these hawaiian vibes.

AuthentiCity
LFD's Carlos Alvarez Montero will be showing part of his new series "SCARS" at the illy issimo / SVA “Revealing Purity and Authenticity in Urban Life” exhibition in NYC next week (october 4-10) along with Igor Aronov, Matthew Baum, Giselle Behrens and Caroline Shepard.
Here is a little explanation about the exhibition:
“Revealing Purity and Authenticity in Urban Life” is an exhibit that explores the straightforward language of photography as a means to investigate signs of authenticity and purity in an urban setting. Open to the public for one week only from October 4 - 10, selections from “Revealing Purity and Authenticity in Urban Life” will be presented at the illy issimo AuthentiCity Lounge, located at 632 Hudson Street, in New York’s famed Meatpacking District during the Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival.
“Revealing Purity and Authenticity in Urban Life” marks the final stage of a photography project created by illy issimo’s partnership with New York’s School of Visual Arts, with the aim of celebrating and supporting young emerging artists and challenging them to explore signs of authenticity and purity in urban settings.
Open to SVA students and alumni, the project began with more than 200 photographers who were charged with capturing their vision of urban life. Through a series of juror selections and exhibitions, five of the 200 photographers were selected to continue their work and each received a cash prize of $3000.00. Project winners were then chosen to be featured in this dedicated exhibition at the illy issimo AuthentiCity Lounge.
The winning photographer will be announced during the exhibition and will be awarded a cash prize of $10,000 as well as an assignment to execute an original photograph for illy issimo.
Monday, October 4 – Sunday, October 10
632 Hudson Street, between Horatio and Jane Streets, New York City
Hours: Monday and Thursday: 11 AM-8 PM
